Ferrerias
Ferrerķas, in Catalan and officially known
as Ferreries, is a municipality in the autonomous community of the Balearic
Islands of Spain, located on the
island of Menorca.
The name originates from the word "Ferrer"
and comes from the Latin word ferrum. The town has an old castle worth visiting
called the castle of St Agatha, situated on the road to the Northern Coastal
town of Alcos Cami Teds.
The castle was the last resting place of
the Moors on the island, and legend has it that a Moorish prince used to ride
his horse galloping, down the hill on which the castle is built, so fast that
the metal horseshoes etched themselves in the stone, and these horseshoe marks
are still visible today.
Ferreries extends both North and South of the island, with beautiful beaches on both boundaries.
